Maritime and Ocean Affairs Division (MOAD) is a specialized Division recently established in 2013 under the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. MOAD is generally responsible for coordinating all outstanding maritime boundary issues and other related ocean affairs. There are three staff under the division; the Head of Division, Senior Desk Officer and a Desk Officer.
The Division is also responsible for coordinating all marine scientific research and ocean governance framework program in Vanuatu. Furthermore, Maritime and Ocean Affairs Division maintains close collaboration with United Nations and other international and regional organizations that deal with maritime and ocean related issues.
The Division collaborates with other relevant sections within the Department on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) on a national level.
